For the season 2023, all la strada four-wheel-drive models based on the Sprinter do feature the Torque on Demand Four-Wheel-Drive from Mercedes Benz. Unlike before, the four-wheel-drive does not have to be activated by the driver anymore. The system decides autonomously, according to the situation and conditions, how much torque it distributes to which axle. In combination with the 9G-Tronic automatic gear-box and the 140KW/ 190HP 2,0l engine, the layouts of the la strada Regent and Nova product ranges have enough power and traction to circulate on or off paved roads.

A multiple-disc clutch, integrated in the transfer case, ensures the distribution of the driving force of the new four-wheel-drive. The clutch remains open when in normal driving use on conventional roads, and only powers the rear axle of the vehicle. On challenging terrain, the clutch which is electronically controlled, automatically closes and distributes the most optimal driving force to the front wheels as well. This ensures high traction and confident handling. Once the tougher traction is not requested anymore, the multiple-disc clutch will shift the driving torque of the front axle down to zero. The new Torque on Demand Four-Wheel-Drive is construed for a total weight up to 5,5t. The la strada models Regent and Nova are available in total weight versions up to 4,4t, which gives the new Torque on Demand Four-Wheel-Drive significant reserves!
