la strada Fahrzeugbau GmbH is a leisure vehicle manufacturer specialized in compact camper vans. During the company history of 30 years, the company from Echzell in Hesse has established itself in the motor vehicle segment of converted camper vans. In this segment that has been strongly growing for years, la strada defines its market position on the basis of the quality of the used materials and their high-quality processing. Besides the serial production, many processing steps are executed in manual work. The quality of every vehicle fulfils, as always, the high requirements of a manufactory. That is why la strada considers itself, with all camper van series, as a prime supplier in its vehicle segment.
Starting as a small family business, the camper van manufactory has developed into a small series manufacturer operating all over Europe. Thanks to the European type approval in accordance with General guideline 70/156/EEC, the camper vans built now in Echzell are admitted everywhere in the European Union. For a leisure vehicle manufacturer of this size, this is an equally advanced as well as unusual achievement which has become the foundation of a growing European dealer network. About 30 contractual partners in the European countries are selling la strada camper vans from Moscow to Great Britain and from the polar circle to Provence. 19 other commercial partners serve the German clients of la strada. The distribution network of the Hessian camper van manufacturer comprises also an exotic dealer in the vicinity of the Japanese capital Tokyo.
Around 325 vehicles are leaving every year the 14,000 square meter large factory premises in Echzell. The production hall, which was expanded and modernized in 2008, belongs now to the most modern manufacturing sites of camper vans in Europe. Around 50 employees build here, under the guidance of the owners Marco Lange and Andreas Dalchow, about ten different models in the three series Avanti, Regent and Nova. Thereby now mostly transporters of the marks Fiat Ducato and Citroën Jumper serve as a base for the Avanti series and Mercedes Sprinter for the Regent and Nova series. In its long history, the camper van company collected experience from almost all current van manufacturers. The first development was in 1986 on the basis of Volkswagen T3. Shortly afterwards, it was followed by a series based on Mercedes MB 100. Then followed models from Citroen, Ford, Renault or Mercedes Vito. In the 80s and 90s, it was experimented even with small vans of Asian marks.
A turning point in the history of la strada was the introduction of la strada Nova in 2000. Then la strada left for the first time the terrain of the camper van vehicles. At the same time, Nova was the cornerstone of the beginning orientation towards the prime segment which is now implemented consistently in all series. This most noble representative of the la strada model palette is a monocoque camper van. A completely new camping body based on the ladder-type frame chassis of Mercedes Sprinter was used. However, unlike the traditional partially integrated ones, the outside walls of la strada Nova do not consist of separated walls, floor and ceiling, which are connected to each other. The camping body of la strada Nova is manufactured in one piece from a cast of glass fiber reinforced plastics. The tailgates, doors and windows are mounted in the provided recesses. The good insulation, high strength and long lifespan are the result. With this elaborate construction, la strada Nova is already now a solitary presence in the German camper van landscape.
In the coming years, la strada is planning a continuous expansion of its European distribution network. Thereby the regional gaps will be closed and further countries will be included. The clearly positioned model palette is adapted to the new tendencies in the use of the small camper vans and is expanded in the medium term with new models. Thereby the la strada values of compact dimensions, solid materials and high-quality processing are always in the centre of the requirements catalogue.

Echzell, 18th June 2018 – for the season 2019 the new Mercedes Benz Sprinter generation illuminates the la strada Regent S. Up-to-date assistance systems known from the automobile industry are now also available within the special equipment for a la strada van conversion. Voice control, adaptive cruise control and a 360° all round view camera are available within technic packages for the Regent S. The premium quality conversion as well as the clever use of space award the la strada Regent S to a reliable and compact companion. Its total length of 5,93m and the adjustable rear garage make the Regent S suitable for daily use.
Numerous assistance systems, until now reserved for passenger cars, are now available for the la strada Regent S. By pronouncing “hello Mercedes” the driver activates the voice assistant. Intuitive instructions such as “next gas station”, “drive home” or “play radio one” are enough to operate the device. This is not only comfortable while driving, it is also very save as the eyes of the driver are focussed on the street and his hands remain on the steering wheel. The ergonomic leather steering wheel also operates the adaptive cruise control which always keeps the van at a safe driving distance to the car in front, a function formally known from passenger cars only. The Regent S brakes autonomously as soon as the car in front slows down and accelerates by itself up to the pre-set speed when the road is clear again. Pulling in becomes as easy as winking with the new 360° all round view camera which does not only show the obstacle behind the van but also everything in front of it and on the sides. Crosswind assist intervention, active lane keeping assist, blind spot and high-beam assist were appreciated features for the previous model and remain of course available for the new Regent S.
The rear wheel drive la strada Regent S gets powered by the newest Euro VI-C CDI engine with 120kW/163HP and 140kW/190HP performances. As soon as Mercedes Benz will launch the four-wheel-drive version it will unquestionably be available at strada.
The living space of the la strada Regent S is foreseen for two persons. The headroom above the cabin seats is generous as the compartment above the cockpit can be folded up; in this stowage the table gets safely placed while driving.
The seating bench is adjustable in various positions: from an upright backrest for the safe travelling use to a slid-out seating surface for the comfortable living use. In any position the bench is highly comfortable with its convex shaped back rest. It features two 3 points safety belts and the seating place next to the window is equipped with the Isofix system with top-tether fixation for a child’s seat. The kitchenette features a 3-hub gas cooker and sink combination as well as a 65l compressor fridge installed at a convenient handling level. Wall cupboards and five different drawers with soft closing mechanism do offer a lot of storage possibilities for the kitchen utensils. The interior can be individually configured thanks to some 84 fabric and leather shades as well as ten different wood colours while ten paintings are available for the auto body.
If requested a curtain will separate the living space from the rear part of the vehicle with its sleeping space and bathroom. Two swing doors give access to the bathroom; this does not only enlarge the free moving space in the little corridor but also looks very elegant. The disk spring Froli system and the cold-foam mattress do ensure highest sleeping comfort in the rear bed. Stowage is offered in eight wall cupboards, a wardrobe and two drawers under the bed.
The compact Regent S is suitable for the daily use thanks to the ingenious rear garage which features two handy storage rooms for small items as well as the gas compartment for two 11kg gas bottles. The space underneath the bed offers enough place for groceries or luggage. When lifting up the middle part of the bed and taking away the central piece of furniture, the garage enlarges easily and sturdy goods can be loaded up to the cabin. Bicycles or surfboards can be carried along on holiday without any problem.
The la strada Regent S is a compact motorhome for the demanding user. The van combines flexibility, suitability for daily use, living- and sleeping comfort and high end manufacture and is as handy to drive as a passenger car.
18th June 2018, Echzell – for the new season la strada Fahrzeugbau GmbH offers the optional air suspension systems from VB Airsuspension for the Avanti range. The additional air suspension on the rear axle equalizes eventual slanting positions due to one-sided charging of the vehicle. Furthermore, the rear suspension comfort is given as the system absorbs the shocks felt on uneven roads. The full air suspension on the front and on the rear axle offers the highest driving comfort. A balanced roadability, less inclination on curvy ways and automatic levelling of the stationary motorhome, are some of the big advantages of the system.
The semi air suspension on the rear axle smothers vehicle roll when driving through winding roads and maintains a regular driving level with constant ground clearance. Irregular loading gets balanced and the suspension comfort on ground unevenness increases. The air pressure in the air spring bellows can be changed manually. A control unit is mounted in the cabin from where the left or the right bellow can be filled up or emptied separately. Therewith, wheel-load fluctuation can be balanced when driving and a sloping position can be partly levelled when camping.
The full air suspension serves as spring and shock absorber at the same time and for each single wheel. The car body remains widely unaffected by uneven roads, shocks are “swallowed” by the air spring bellows. Inside the van, no vibrations are felt and impacts are hardly noticeable. The pressure in each bellow gets regulated automatically through a compressor which can also, if required, be controlled manually with a remote control mounted in the cabin. The level of the vehicle, though, is fully automatically kept on a permanent same height. This prevents body roll on curvy roads, diving and bottoming under braking and rising-up at rough acceleration.
At the push of a button the full air suspension can be raised or lowered and enables either more ground clearance or less height, as requested. Besides the driving advantages this function also eases the camper daily use: it is far more convenient to press the auto-level function to bring the van into a perfect horizontal position than to manipulate camping poling wedges!
